Welcome to the Nottingham Playhouse, England, United Kingdom. The Playhouse is a proscenium Theatre with an auditorium that can seat 750. The particularly generous foyer areas mean that there is ample and interesting space for presenting small scale productions, concerts, exhibitions and talks. The building is fully accessible, both front and back stage.
Many artists and companies visit the Playhouse. These have included Peter Brook, Robert Lepage, Steven Berkoff, the Maly Theatre of St Petersburg, Wim Vandekeybus, the Market Theatre of Johannesburg, Northern Stage, Stephen Petronio Dance Company, Michael Clarke, Paco Pena, the Ghana Dance Ensemble, Garth Fagan Dance Company from New York, the National Theatre of Norway and the Teshigawara Company from Japan. We also invite a number of companies and artists to visit our Theatre for shorter periods that make up our exciting Event Weeks.
Many of Nottingham Playhouse?s achievements are made possible through generous sponsorships with local and national companies. The Playhouse is generously supported by the Arts Council England (East Midlands) and the councils of Nottinghamshire County, Nottingham City and the Boroughs of Gedling, Rushcliffe and Broxtowe.
Most of the plays and workshops have an educational focus, and are usually supported by teachers? resource is targeted to specific areas of the curriculum. As well as schools, Roundabout?s plays are booked by colleges and higher education institutions, as examples of issue-based or educational Theatre for performing arts and teaching students.
