Vermilion News Print Shop Museum2015-01-16

The Vermilion News Print Shop Museum in Vermilion, Ohio is housed in a historical building that served as a print shop and a weekly newspaper from 1905 to 1964 and here visitors can observe how 19th and 20th century letter press printing and newspaper publishing was accomplished. The print shop has two linotypes and four letter presses from way back, and there's also a book bindary, storage room with a manual paper cutter, electric stapler, and manual hole punch machine, come for a fascinating visit. The Vermilion News Print Shop Museum provides and overview of how news was gathered and distributed in the small towns of America back in the day, and what equipment was used to publish a weekly newspaper as well as to print books, magazines and posters using letter presses. Mentor Firefighters’ Historical Association2015-01-16

The Mentor Firefighters’ Historical Association is a non-profit organization in Mentor, Ohio which created the Mentor Safety House to reduce childhood injuries, and document the history of the Mentor Fire Department. Located in the historic district of Mentor, the Safety Village provides fire and injury prevention education to over 900 children per year, with children bussed in from local schools to participate in interactive safety lessons developed through the National Fire Protection Association’s Risk Watch curriculum. They offer safety lessons in the family room, kitchen and bedroom safety and the building also houses a fire museum with displays of antique fire equipment, and the refurbished and update Philip the Firetruck will soon be a museum on wheels. The Mentor Firefighters Historical Association also offer Camp 911 at the Mentor Safety House and Fire Museum for 3rd graders to educate them on various safety issues. They also host golf outings and other events annually, sig up to support, fund and donate to their excellent work.READ MORE
Lorain Sports Hall of Fame2015-01-13

The Lorain Sports Hall of Fame honors those synonymous with the best of athletic achievement in Lorain, Ohio and they are nominated by the general public with their plaques and other sports memorabilia displayed in the museum. You the public must submit the names of the athletes and their personal qualifications by September the 30th annually, and they will then be screened by the committee via a detailed evaluation process, and the end result is to establish a ballot for final election, votes are then done in February of the following year to select the Class of Inductees that are then enshrined at the annual Banquet in May. The Lorain Sports Hall of Fame is non-profit and supports athletic and academic excellence financially and gratefully accept donations to support and sustain this awards program, they also accept sports memorabilia for display at their museum.READ MORE
Lorain Lighthouse Foundation2015-01-13

The Lorain Lighthouse Foundation in Lorain, Ohio restores and takes care of the lighthouse, and with a history going back all the way to 1937 when the first light was a simple lantern hanging on a pole at the water's edge, this is a fascinating place to visit. Later the beam was powered by kerosene, and the light was rebuilt at least twice more over time and on until the beacon building was installed in 1898 with the first lighthouse keeper, eventually the kerosene light was replaced by an oil vapor light, after much more history the lighthouse is now maintained as a historic landmark. Visitors here can enjoy lighthouse tours, and the museum and gift shop offers a wonderful insight and items for sale of the Jewel of the Port, as the lighthouse is known.READ MORE
