Got the costume, got the beach bag and headed to the beach to soak up some sun. Remember that you share the beach others … so these simple beach etiquette rules will ensure a great day at the beach for everyone.
1.
Try to leave enough space between your beach towel and your neighbours. Unless the beach is very crowded there should be plenty of room so that you do not have to swamp your fellow beach goers.
2.
Be prepared. Bring sunblock to protect yourself against the harmful effects of sunburn. And always have enough water to drink.
3.
Be careful when putting up your beach umbrella, it could easily injure someone closeby. And remember to angle the umbrella into any breeze to ensure it does not blow away!
4.
Check what the tide is doing. If the tide is coming in, be sure you are set up far enough up the beach that you are not washed away.
5.
Respect your fellow beach goers. Keep the noise down and do not play loud music.
6.
Respect the culture of a foreign country. Be sensitive before you go topless as this is frowned upon in many places. Cover up when appropriate - do not walk into beachside cafes in your dripping swimwear.
7.
Keep an eye on your children at all times. Make sure they are safe and make sure that they are not pestering other beach goers.
8.
Pets are not welcome at most people beaches. Take pets where they are welcome but always pick up their mess.
9.
Play your beach games away from other beach goers. Watch where you throw that Frisbee and be aware that you kick up sand when you run.
10.
When you play boisterous games in the water make sure that you do not bump or splash fellow swimmers.
11.
Do not wee in the sea or on the beach.
12.
Do not feed seagulls or other wildlife. They soon become pests.
13.
Be careful when you shake out your beach towel - do not shake sand in someone else's face.
14.
Remember the golden rule: Take only Memories, Leave only Footprints. Clean up after yourself ... bring a rubbish bag with you and take away all your litter. And that includes cigarette butts!
15.
Never bring glass to the beach. It can break easily and cause injury.
