Once more, Alexandria is on the map as a centre for knowledge and learning. An ambitious project has seen the development of a cutting edge library in Alexandria to capture the spirit of the ancient library that the city is famous for.
Biblioteca Alexandrina is a thoroughly modern building clad in Aswan granite. The outside is adorned with carved symbols from 120 different alphabets. The main reading hall is vast, stretching over 11 levels. There is a display of very rare manuscripts and three museums dedicated to antiquities, manuscripts and the history of Science.
Biblioteca Alexandrina aims to be a center of excellence in the production and dissemination of knowledge. The complex boasts academic research centres, art galleries and a conference centre. There is also a planetarium, children's science exploration centre (the ALEXploratorium!) and internet archive resource. The cutting edge Culturama is the first ever 9-projector cultural panorama interactive display.
