Boa Viagem in Recife is one of the most hip urban beaches in Brazil, a wide sandy beach stretching over 8 kilometres.
Boa Viagem is Recife's answer to recreation on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Boa Viagem means "Bon Voyage" or "Good Journey" and this is what holidaymakers enjoy about Recife.
Sheltered by the reefs which give Recife its name, Boa Viagem beach is the perfect place to swim and while away time in the sunshine. During the day the beach comes alive with sun worshipers and traders offering ice cold refreshments and beach snacks. Across the avenue you will find a choice of restaurants to retreat to when all the sea and sand get too much.
The southern stretches of the beach are popular with locals, while the middle parts of the beach are most popular with holidaymakers. This is close to the hotels, and here you will find all the beach services and recreation activities. Across the drag is your choice of restaurants and a lively nightlife. Praia do Pina or Pina beach lies on the northern end. This is home to the city's fishermen and is densely populated.
After a day at the beach, take a stroll along the walkway and browse the thatched kiosks that dot the sidewalk. Here you can try out the local delicacies on offer. At low tide wander along the reefs and enjoy the life in the many rock pools exposed by the retreating tide. Night time sees a lively nightlife come to Boa Viagem beach.
