Canoeing for the Coast, USA

Fri, Jul 4th 2008, 00:00

On June 30 2008 mother of two, Margo Pellegrino, embarked on a journey from her New Jersey home headed for Washington DC.

Margo will be paddling an outrigger canoe 500 miles armed with a message for the USA Congress showing strong support for a federal bill that will set out policy for the management of America’s coastline. The legislation is known as OCEANS 21, an acronym for Ocean Conservation, Education and National Strategy for the 21st Century.

This is the second paddling expedition by this intrepid woman. An amateur paddler, last year she embarked on a 2,000 mile journey from Miami, FL to Camden, ME to inspire her children and others to take an active role in conserving the world’s coastlines. She received overwhelming support along the way showing that there are plenty of individuals and organisations out there who are passionate about the fate of the oceans.
