Copacabana Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world.

In fact, Copacabana has been a popular destination since 1858 when the wealthy used to camp out, enjoying the ocean and having a great party. This spirit continued and 1928 saw the opening of the ultra-luxurious Copacabana Place Hotel ... and so, Copacabana became one of the most popular destinations in Brazil.

Ever since, the neighbourhood has grown, offering every pleasure for the tourist – hotels, casinos and restaurants. This is a very densely populated area of Rio de Janeiro and the vibe on the streets continues day and night. With so many people around, petty theft is a problem so tourists are advised to watch their possessions at all times.

Located in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana is the destination to see and be seen, whether you are a local or a tourist, everyone flocks to this famous area. The beach heaves with people and everything is on offer, loungers, beach sports and beach bars. The beach is 5 kilometres of golden sand, but be warned, it gets very crowded.

The beach is set up with volleyball nets and beach football courts, and Copacabana is also the home of the curious futevolei: foot volleyball. This is the place to get active, whether you join the rollerbladers and joggers along the Avenida Atlantica, take time out at one of the beach bars or party the night away at one of the many nightspots.

New Years eve sees people flock from all over the world to enjoy the festivities … and at Copacabana you can be assured that there will be plenty to keep you amused!
