Galway is a vibrant town offering a fascinating combination of modern and traditional.
Galway is a vibrant university town. It has one of the youngest populations in Europe and offers a wealth of cutting edge culture. However, also deeply traditional, the west coast of Ireland is still proudly celtic and traditional gaelic is still spoken in many parts.
This fascinating combination of old and new makes for one of the most vibrant festivals in Europe. July sees the annual Galway Arts Festival. The city comes alive with a full programme of Irish and international acts showcasing all aspects of arts and culture, from theatre and dance, to visual arts, music, literature and comedy.
The Galway Arts Festival sees over 100,000 visitors who flock to Galway to enjoy the programme which takes place at 28 venues across the city.
The 2008 Galway Arts Festival takes place on 14-27 July 2008.
