Rogue Brewery in Newport, Oregon

One of the more curious attractions in Newport USA must be Rogue Brewery.

Located near the marina and Yaquina Bay Bridge, Rogue Ales offers brewery tours every day and guests get the opportunity to sample some of the fine beers at the bar: Brewers on the Bay.

Rogue Ales was founded in 1988 and their first brewpub was in Ashland, Oregon. A second brewpub opened in Newport in 1989 and this has since become the centre of operations after the Ashland brewery was destroyed in a flood.

Brewer, John Maier, is passionate about beer brewing and he keeps experimenting with new recipes. All the beers are made with the finest quality hops, barley malt, pure water and special yeast. Rogue guarantees never to use preservatives or chemical additives. Beers are bottled in brown glass with oxygen absorbing caps to maximise their shelf life.

The list of Rogue beers is a long one. Try American Amber, one of the original recipes. American Amber is a tawny amber ale with a coffee aroma. Bullfrog Ale is a light drink, crisp and refreshing served with a lemon.

Many brews are in limited supply. Brutal Bitter was brewed just once and sold out at the brewery soon after. It is a special full bodied cross between a bitter and an Indian pale ale brewed with the finest ingredients available. The bitter was a hit and a very limited supply is available in the retail trade in distinctive ceramic swing-top bottles. Another curious brew includes Chamomellow, a golden ale infused with chamomile.
