Hello and welcome to Alpine Motel. We are situated just a few minutes north of the town centre of Oamaru New Zealand. Stroll into the centre and observe our unique and recently restored limestone architectural buildings. This stone was quarried locally, with some buildings dating back to the 1860s. Now occupied by banks, museums and art galleries. Architectural designers Forrester & Lemon and F.W. Petre William Mason have left their styles.
The Alpine Motel offers you clean, spacious, comfortable units ranging from studios to a 3 bedroom house.
While staying at the Alpine Motel, why not visit the penguin colonies. Our endangered yellow eyed penguins can be seen at Bushy Beach, along with fur seals and sea lions. Little blue (fairy) penguins come ashore daily just on dusk. This is the only place in New Zealand that provides this opportunity to get up close and observe them in their habitat reserves.
A new addition to Oamaru is a whiskey factory in the old grain store in the lower part of the town. Also a relocated soap-packing factory 'Lavish' in the old railway station. Tours available for both.
