Apsley Gorge Vineyard is situated near Bicheno on the pristine east coast of Tasmania, off the coast of Australia.
Apsley Gorge Vineyard is known for it's supreme Pinot Noir and classic Chardonnay. Award winning Wines known world wide as among Australia's best.
Apsley Gorge Vinyard is simply one of the best places in Tasmania, perhaps in Australia, to eat crayfish and oysters washed down with Wines whose quality is matched only by the majesty of the ocean view. Brian Franklin, an ex-abalone diver and cray fisherman, is now a vineyard owner and Winemaker. He has a house in France, does vintage every year with Jean-Marie Fourrier and Phillipe Charlopin in Burgundy, and has brought traditional Burgundian techniques to his Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Winemaking here with the Wines listed by the prestigious Justin and Brooks Wine merchants in London.
Apsley Gorge Vinyard near Bicheno's Winery and cellar door is housed in a rustic fish processing shed, untouched by any architectural design or conceit. Inside is a cramped accumulation of stainless steel tanks and premium French oak barrels. You order your cray, oysters and Wine at a small counter, sit at a ply-wood table on the shed?s cracked concrete apron and share the world with nothing more than an occasional seagull, the waves at your feet and a cray boat or two sheltering in The Gultch. A squeeze of lemon, a little ozone seasoning, a sip of Wine ? and that?s it. Fabulous.
