Welcome to the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Australia. The human form in art is currently being celebrated at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
While the Art Gallery has adopted free entry for general admission, it will also offer two or three large-scale paid exhibitions every year which are designed to have broad appeal and bring visitors to Ballarat to see them. The Gallery's first paid entry exhibition is The Naked and the Nude which opened a while ago.
This first comprehensive review of the nude in Australian art for decades features paintings, drawings and sculpture the Gallery's extensive collection as well as some significant loans from artists and other galleries including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
The Art Gallery collection is presented in a series of rooms contained within several buildings ranging in date from 1887 to 2001. The oldest part of the Art Gallery of Ballarat, which was specially constructed to house the collection between 1887 and 1890 conveys the opulence of the boom period of the 1880s, while the most recent extension, with its clean lines and subtle use of natural light, enhances the display of the contemporary collection. A dynamic exhibition program ensures that there is always something fresh to see.
