Resting in the heart of the picturesque and historic town of Gatehouse of Fleet, the Bank of Fleet is a small, family run Hotel renowned for excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. The recent upgrading to 3* status is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of the owners to provide the very best for their guests.
Situated in the middle of a National Scenic Area on the edge of the magnificent Galloway Forest Park the town is in an ideal area for walking, cycling or fishing holidays whilst only a very short drive from two of the south west's more beautiful beaches with a splendid outlook over the Solway Firth. The hills behind the town also provide a perfect opportunity not only for hill walking or mountain biking but also for bird and wild life enthusiasts.
The town has a fascinating history not least of which stems from the time of the industrial revolution when the Birtwhistle family from Yorkshire established many factories and works in an endeavor to make Gatehouse the Glasgow of the south. The, main building of the Bank of Fleet Hotel was originally built at the end of the 18th century as the home of this wealthy family and even today it retains some of the original features despite having been acquired by the Western Bank, the Union Bank and the Bank of Scotland in later years - (hence the name Bank of Fleet Hotel).
