Bank on Main in Rutherglen, Australia is Rutherglen's only Main Street Traditional Bed & Breakfast.
Located in the centre of town this two story commercial building was the towns Bank of Australasia. The building was constructed in 1899 and opened for business in January 1900.
Since closing as a bank a tasteful conversion has taken place to provide luxury Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
Enter by the side gate and breezeway which was the original street entrance to the Managers residence. The building has an imposing banking chamber with 14 ft ceilings, log fire, ceiling roses polished floor boards and is currently used as the lounge and dining room.
The original walk in vault is still part of this impressive room.
Climb the magnificent banistered stair case to one of the two large guest bedrooms which are located to the rear of the building and delight in swag and tail curtains of a bygone era, king size beds and en-suite spa bathroom.
During your stay you are within 10 minutes walk of Rutherglen restaurants, the award winning pie shop and three hotels. All the area's excellent wineries are within an easy 10 minutes drive. The Mighty Murray River is 10 kms away and trips to Lake Moodemere and King Lake provide an opportunity to get some peaceful walking exercise or maybe a round of golf at Rutherglen's 100 year old sand scrape golf course.
Upstairs both our guest bedrooms are decorated with swag and tail curtains to cover the 8 ft high windows.
For your sleeping comfort our top quality king size beds have been outfitted with luxurious linen, woollen under lays, woollen doona?s and electric blankets with variable heat controls.
Heating and cooling of your room is by your individually controlled split system and may be enhanced by the use of the ceiling fan.
Each room at Bank on Main has its own TV, DVD player, CD system and ironing facilities.
There is a coffee table and lounge chairs for your comfort and tea/coffee making facilities along with home baked cookies are available on the guest verandah just a few short steps from your room.
