A few minutes drive from Erie are the Battles Museums of Rural Life.
At the Battles Museums of Rural Life there is always something going on for children as well as adults.
The mission of the Battles Museums of Rural Life is to interpret agricultural life in Northwestern Pennsylvania from 1822 to the present. The site consists of 50 acres of farm land, 80 acres of woods and hiking trails, and two historic homes, the R.S. Battles Farmhouse and the Charlotte Elizabeth Battles Memorial Museum.
The R.S. battles Farmhouse was constructed in April of 1858 for Rush Battles, his mother Elizabeth, and his two sisters, Alcina and Lucina. At the time of its construction, Rush was a practicing lawyer and farmer. Today the house is currently interpreted as an 1863 farmhouse. The Battles Farmhouse, 436 Walnut Street, Girard serves as the starting point for all visitors. From Erie, take Rt. 20 west 18 miles to the town of Girard, United States.
