Mount Maunganui has been a holiday hot spot for decades of Kiwis. If you?re a lover of sun, sand and surf you just can?t beat Mount Maunganui beaches. Spend long lazy days relaxing on the beach under bright blue skies, picnicking at one of the quiet beaches around the base of Mount Maunganui, having a BBQ ocean-side as you watch the sun set, catching the perfect wave, splashing about in the shallows, chatting over coffee in a street café as you people-watch or digging your toes into the glittering golden sand and your head into a good book.

The ?main? Mount beach is the place to be, a safe stretch of surf beach that is flanked by massive Mount Maunganui herself on the northern end, and Leisure Island to the south. Take a short walk onto Leisure Island to see the beach from a bird?s eye view and walk to the point to see ?The Blowhole? ? where the Pacific Ocean comes crashing into a cavern in the cliff, sending saltwater jets high into the air.

The coastline stretches uninterrupted for 15kms, so if the main Mount beach is packed out with sun-seekers, and you prefer some more space, you can always find a quiet spot along the coast and really spread out the picnic blanket, umbrellas and beach gear!

A 3 minute walk ?inland? from the Mount beach, and you?re in a serene harbour bay ? Pilot Bay! Hire and kayak and explore the harbour, or just enjoy swimming in calm waters and taking a break from the shade under one of the huge Norfolk Pine trees that line this lovely bay.
