Black Bayou Lake in Monroe, Louisiana, USA is a wildlife refuge and habitat for American Alligator, Prothonotary warbler and alligator snapping turtles, the largest freshwater turtles in North America, and other fauna and flora. There's a Cypress swamp, Bottomland hardwood forest and prairie too, and visitor activities include seasonal archery for whitetail deer as well as hunting for squirrel, rabbit, raccoon and possum, and recognized breeds of bird dogs may assist for the hunting of quail, duck and woodcock, and fishing is allowed at the lake with permits are required for all. Black Bayou Lake practices conservation and encourages wildlife viewing with plenty to see here, plus there are interpretive exhibits at the Vistor Center and much more, including environmental education and canoeing and kayaking on the lake.
