Bleaberry Lodge is a Self Catering cottage in the idyllic village of Thornthwaite.
Thornthwaite is situated between Thornthwaite Forest and the only lake in the Lake District, Bassenthwaite Lake in the United Kingdom. It is also just 3 miles from the centre of Keswick and Derwent Water.
Bleaberry Lodge's location makes it an excellent base for touring the Northern Lake District, but is also only 30 minutesBl drive from South Lakes and the Cumbrian coast, and an hour away from Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall. The famous mountains of Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Scafell and Great Gable are all easily accessible.
The C2C cycle route passes through Thornthwaite, nr Keswick, and Bleaberry Lodge has secure bicycle storage available.
While holidaying at Bleaberry Lodge you can enjoy the various activities offered by Derwent Water including sailing and canoeing. Excellent footpaths permit a circular walk of the Lake at both high and low water levels, and allow a close to nature look at the fauna, flora, and bird life which makes Derwent Water so unique. The walks can be intertwined with lake cruises which have numerous stopping off points around the shore.
Bassenthwaite Lake is much more peaceful and has a very different character; The Lake is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a designated Nature Reserve. Most importantly motor boats are not permitted on the water, and the Southern part of the lake is an internationally renowned site for water birds
There is a hide from which visitors can view the water birds. Ospreys breed here and a further hide from which to watch the ospreys in the wild is open from April until September.
