The Botanical Gardens at the University of Oulu are a wonder to visit, and this collection of living plants is maintained for research and teaching purposes, but the general public are welcome. Collections are mainly from the northern areas, and they support an international seed exchange between Botanical Gardens, they provide seeds and other propagules collected from Northern Finland. The Botanical Gardens can arrange for guided tours, and the greenhouses hold over 1500 plant taxa from tropical, subtropical and temperate climate zones, there is also a beautiful and vibrant outdoor garden with over 4000 taxa, and plants are grouped according to their usage including economic, medicinal, domestic, mountaineous, ornamental and arboretum.
