Broadturn Farm,is located 10 miles from Portland, Maine, raises organic vegetables, poultry, and turkey, as well as natural lamb and pork. The property is in agricultural conservation with the Scarborough Land Conservation Trust. Formerly called the Keith Meserve Farm, the land is one of the largest Farm properties in the Greater Portland area. It has 100 acres of open land and about 330 wooded acres. The historic Farmhouse has been renovated with help from the community and the land is returning to agricultural production after years of dormancy.
The resident Farmers are John Bliss and his wife, Stacy Brenner. Together, they operate the 100 member vegetable CSA and livestock operation. The community has been extremely supportive of the Farm through the work of the Land Trust, as well as by joining the CSA, and purchasing Farm products. Commitment to see this beautiful piece of land as active Farmland comes from all sides. Broadturn Farm, Scarborough is connecting people with fresh, seasonal, often organic produce at a reduced cost. It is much more, however, than being just about vegetables. At Broadturn Farm, Scarborough, USA, we want to involve the community in the process of raising Food. Our methods are certified organic, but we rely more on the face-to-face relationships with our CSA members to ensure transparency. After all, our common goals are broad: healthy, sustainable and humanely raised Food; a strong local economy; and a supportive community.
