Welcome to Cairns Little Theatre, Cairns, Australia. From it’s foundation in 1954, the Cairns Little Theatre has continuously presented an annual programme of plays in Community Halls, the Hartley Street Theatre and the Cairns Civic Theatre until the Rondo Theatre was commissioned in 1983.

A Season of Plays at the Rondo has become established as a regular feature of the Theatre calendar in Far North Queensland.  In 1988 the organisation became incorporated.

The hall adjoining the Theatre was subsequently purchased and in 2001, with the aid of a dollar for dollar subsidy from The Queensland Office of the Arts, a sum of $100,000.00 was expended on refurbishment, including a new toilet block and bar, to create a foyer for the Rondo Theatre. New air-conditioners have since been installed in the Theatre, in the “Green Room” and in the new room on the west side of the Theatre, which connects the “Green Room” to the west door of the auditorium. Our 200 seat ‘Thrust/In the Round’ space is now one of the most comfortable and versatile small venues in Australia. A Government Grant has enabled the archives relating to the fifty-year history of the group to be stored on computer and periodically placed on display. With the assistance of a grant from the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund the Theatre backstage has received a face lift in 2007 in the form of a new mezzanine level enabling more space to move and additional storage space for props.

But it doesn’t stop there, the furture sees joining the foyer and the rondo Theatre into one building including a new box office with EFTPOS facilities and eventually a second level to the foyer for additional rehersal space and costume storage.  The 2008 Season will include four main stream plays. Open auditions are held approximately eight weeks before each production and are advertised in the press, radio and the Cairns Little Theatre ‘Round With Rondo’ member newsletter and the Theatre’s website. Everybody is welcome but all those who are cast mush become financial members.
