The Calais Free Library in Calais, Maine has a long history going back, and built in 1892 has been serving the community for over a hundred years. The Library is listed in the National register of historic places and was doubled in size with extensive additions in 1985 and also in that year, the Calais Free Library Art Gallery was opened to the public featuring works by artists from all over Washington County, Maine and Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada, and every month a new show appears. The Library offers basic Library services, has an on-line catalog for searching and there's wireless internet, there's also a virtual Library of thousands of magazines, newspapers, and reference books. The Calais Free Library offers excellent activities and programs, and there's a Kids corner, plus the Book Lovers' Cafe offers the perfect chance to talk books with fellow book lovers, and they do inter Library loans and much more.
