Welcome to The Camron-Stanford House, Oakland, United States. The Camron-Stanford House was built in 1876, the first of many stately homes that once encircled the Lake. During 27 years as a private residence, it was the home of some of Oakland’s most notable families. Over thirty years ago a group of concerned citizens came together to express their concerns about the venerable old Victorian on the shore of Lake Merritt. The structure, that was home to several of Oakland's leading families of the late 1800's and later served 57 years as the Oakland Public Museum, was in danger of being demolished. That initial spark of concern — and lots of hard work that followed — saved the building and established Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association as the nonprofit organisation. In 1987, after extensive rehabilitation and restoration, the Association reopened the Camron-Stanford House, Oakland, to the public as a House Museum.
