The Castle of the Livonian Order in Ventspils, Latvia houses the Ventspils Museum and is the oldest building in the city, built in the second half of the 13th century, and today is believed to be the oldest medieval fortress in Latvia to have retained its original form. Originally built as a convent house type building, it was various churches throughout the times and even a prison, the Castle also housed various administrative institutions and arm units. The Castle of the Livonian Order has and is still undergoing restoration, and the permanent exhibition of the Ventspils Museum is housed here, they even have a digital exhibition of Living History in the attractive Castle tower with telepanoramas. There's an education centre for children's activities and they regularly house temporary exhibitions on art and history as well as host concerts and other events.
