The success and failure of men are written in the stars, as are also the fortune, good or bad, of objects or places, although men and places are often closely linked to one another. That is why it is generally believed that the astral world guards the fate of a man and a Restaurant, namely Salvatore Russo and the Restaurant "Chez Black", which this year celebrates its thirtieth birthday. Thirty years lived intensely and to the full.
The 1960's was the golden age for Positano's tourist trade and it also marked the start of Black's story when an English girl came into his life. And it was this English girl who fell in love whit Salvatore and gave him the name "Black", after his dark, shining skin. First his friends and then his family and gradually his guests, all started to call him Black until eventually people non longer said "let's go to Peppino's", which was the name of his father's Restaurant, but "let's go to Black's". And when his father made up his mind to channel his energies exclusively into family hotel, Black decided to change the Restaurant's name and so was also able to take advantage of the free advertising offered by all those who called him by his nickname.
However, it is no exaggeration to say that if this Restaurant has become so well know, this cannot be attributed merely to its position overlooking the famous "Mermaid's Beach" but is also largely due to the special cuisine ranging from classic traditional Positano food to the exotic and the sophisticated. A cuisine that appeals to all palates : from the rich famous to the so-called "passing tourist".
