The name of our Restaurant comes from the story over the jokes and adventures of Tijl Uilenspiegel. Tijl Uilenspiegel is the hero of an old German folk book from the beginning of the 16th century.
In 1867, the story was rewritten by the Belgian Charles the Coster. The Coster let Tijl Uilenspiegel be born in the little town of Damme (by Bridges) during the relentless Spanish oppression in Flanders in the 16th century. He gives Tijl Uilenspiegel a friend, named De Lamme Goedzak (the stomach) and a woman, Nele (the heart of Flanders). Together they experience sometimes bizarre adventures by which she fought for a free Belgium. De Lamme Goedzak is renowned for sociability and delicious food and drink. Hence the name of our Restaurant.
