Desmond Castle

Desmond Castle in Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland | Attraction | Castle | Historic Site

Desmond Castle in Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland is a wonderful Historic Site to visit consisting of a three storey keep with storehouses to the rear. Built by the Earl of Desmond, originally as a customs house, Desmond Castle also served as a prison in the 18th century, an ordnance store, and as a workhouse during the great famine. Now a national monument, the historical Desmond Castle hosts the International Museum of Wine Exhibition, which documents the history of Ireland's wine links with Europe and the world. Guided tours are available, and it's a fascinating place to visit.
