Fat Salmon Backpackers Hostel is a progressive, fun and funky space that provides inexpensive accommodation to progressive, fun and funky budget international travellers. It is El Gordo's mission to offer the biggest bang for a buck, as he really knows the value of a Canadian dollar these days.
The Fat Salmon Backpackers Hostel offers its guests plenty of happy space, being equipped with a large lounge (complete with the best music this side of the Hump), a fully-equipped sit-in kitchen with a view of the rising sun and Mount Arrowsmith, six comfortable dormitories, and a cozy reception area. There are both shower and toilet blocks for your comfort and necessity, as well as "La Gorda's Suite" -a relaxing single-person bathroom, boasting a bathtub for the weary after-a-long-day(s)-of-tramping traveller. All of the dormitories are shared rooms, and range in size from four beds (The Knickerbocker Room and The Mullet Room) to eight beds (The Carnie Room and Oh, The Places You Will Go Room) per room, and much in between (Rotorua Room and The Daisy Field Room). We try our best to accommodate groups together in a given area of the hostel. There is an inexpensive laundromat just a hop, skip and jump around the corner, by the Kingsway Pub (where you can sit and have a pint while waiting for the spin cycle to finish). We also have a sweet parking space in the back of the building where you can park your VW and rest a while. For a modest fee, you are welcome to leave your vehicle here while you are out in Barkley Sound, the Broken Islands, Tofino, wherever, for whatever time period you happen to be away. And, brand-spanking new to the Fat Salmon, is HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET, so bring your own laptop. That is what we're talking about.
The Fat Salmon Backpackers Hostel, in all its infinite wisdom, understands the need for a secure space in which to keep passports, money belts, credit cards, cameras, and any other small important articles. Therefore, we provide a locked safe space, free of charge, for this purpose. We also have a secure lock-up space on premise in which you can leave packs, bikes, kayaks, and any other big gear for a minimum fee, for longer periods of time, should you plan to hike the West Coast Trail, take a Batstar tour or visit Kathy and Peter at Rendezvous Dive adventures in Rainy Bay. We, and your gear, will be here when you return.
