Franck and Pete wanted to create a place for our families and friends to enjoy great food in a relaxed and beautiful setting... where children, pets and sandy bare feet are welcome for what really matters, welcome to The Foodbarn, Noordhoek Farm Village, Western Cape South Africa.
Our approach to service is to be knowledgeable and caring. The food is civilised without being pretentious; that is to say it has natural taste, smells and textures, and much character... often it looks beautiful too. What is paramount is that it is prepared with respect, savvy and love... then, it is the right food for us to eat
For all of this to happen, there must also be an element of fun... fun on the plate, in the kitchen, with our suppliers... with as much as possible.
We are both at that stage in our lives where this fun component weaves through so many aspects of our lives ? with our families, our quality of life and a focus on the important things. We firmly believe that this should be encompassed in our restaurant and we do aim to keep it that way! So, our restaurant might be less fanciful than others but the quality of raw ingredients, the innovation in the dishes and the attention to detail in their presentation, and the caring way it is brought to your table, is what really matters.
More often than not, a restaurant menu changes to 'use the freshest seasonal ingredients'. At The Foodbarn, Noordhoek, Western Cape the main reason we change the menu is because we are passionate about food, the wine it should be served with, the memories it invokes, and the conversation it stimulates. We appreciate it immensely that so many of our guests 'get this' and do not always expect the now famous prawn ragout to be ever present on the menu... it is always superb when it does make a return though!
It would be very surprising if our wine list was ever honoured with a "Most comprehensive wine list" award...this is not what it is about for us. The wines on our list are there because we either know the winemaker, the wine is simply sublime with a dish on our menu, or there is some or other story attached to the wine... the common denominator at ALL times is the price of the wine will never be exorbitant.
