The Garden Guest House Bed and Breakfast is a private house (circa 1905) in a serene and romantic setting amid 10 acres of bayou woodlands in Slidell in Louisiana. Ancient live oaks, magnolias, tung oil and pine trees abound. The grounds are landscaped with huge azaleas, camellias, and gardenias.
There are many things for our guests to do in the New Orleans area, but there are many relaxing and enjoyable things that they can do without leaving the grounds of the The Garden Guest House Bed and Breakfast. Bird watching; wandering and exploring the meandering nature trails through the acres of woods; sitting on one of the swings or benches smelling the fragrances of honeysuckle, jasmine, or gardenias; relaxing on one of the large decks sipping wine on a moon lit night; reading a book or magazine from the B & B library while lounging in one of the living rooms with floor to ceiling glass walls; laughing around an antique table at a reunion of old friends; browsing the art galleries of the historic old town centers of Slidell and Covington.
Our landscaped perimeter looks out upon a lush pine forest.Your hosts welcome tours of the antiques and art work in the main house. Paul and Bonnie can also suggest great places to do antique shopping and wonderful restaurants in the area. Paul and Bonnie love sharing their 1800 square foot greenhouse, rose arbor, fruit trees, and hanging sculptures of exotic tropical plants. Guests who are interested in a gardening experience can learn about indigenous plants, horticultural methods, potting orchids, attachment techniques for hanging tropical plants, as well as the designing and building of a home greenhouse.
Bird watchers delight in the vast number of birds attracted to the many bird feeders carefully placed throughout the grounds and near the Guest House.
The Garden Guest House Bed and Breakfast is a raised Louisiana cottage containing many fine antiques. Guests may chose One, Two or Three available bedroom accommodations. Depending upon guests' requirements, the house can be open to all three bedrooms or it can be partitioned into two separate sections.
Each section has its own private entrance, private decks, and great rooms. Both parties enjoy complete privacy, peace and quiet. The Magnolia Suite has two magnificently furnished bedrooms, a large living-dinning room with cathedral ceiling and walls of glass overlooking the gardens, kitchen with appliances, convenient laundry facilities with storage closets, a huge bathroom, and a large private deck for lounging and listening to the bird song. Guests may chose any one or both bedrooms, whichever suits their needs.
The Camellia Suite has one large bedroom with an exquisitely carved mahogany Victorian bed as well as the option for a second bedroom. It also has two baths, a large living-dining room with cathedral ceiling and exposed cypress beams, Ceiling fans, a cozy New Orleans old brick fireplace, real slate floor, three walls of glass, providing a panoramic view of the landscape. Lined privacy drapes have been added to all three glass walls. It has its own private entrance with private deck.
Bonnie loves to exhibit her special holiday decorations which shimmer and glow throughout the estate each season. Especially elaborate are the Christmas Holiday decorations with the many wreaths and 12 foot tree that is illuminated by the warm light of the fireplace.
