The Garlic Farm in Isle of Wight, English Channel, United Kingdom | Attraction | Garlic Farm

Welcome to The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, English Channel, United Kingdom. The Garlic Farm is the UK?s premier grower of garlic and source of all things garlic.
Established by Colin and his family over 30 years ago, the passion for garlic and anything to do with garlic has become the driving force of Colin, his wife Jenny and their five children who are all involved in the business in different ways.
Isle of Wight garlic began in her mother's kitchen garden in the early 1970s. The hot summers of 1975 and '76 effortlessly produced quality garlic, bright and white, superior to the miserable imported garlic that was to be found on shop shelves around the country.
Intrigued by the ancient origins of garlic and its wide range of culinary, health and mythical properties, Colin has developed the farm business and become certainly the UK?s if not Europe?s leading expert on garlic. This passion and expertise has grown a thriving food business providing the best range of garlic to eat, grow and learn about.
The Garlic Farm, Isle of Wight, English Channel, has grown in prestige and reputation over the past 30 years, but perhaps the most significant growth has been in the last 5 years with the increasing awareness of whole and natural foods and the whole UK ?foodie revolution?. Our farm has been featured on TV, most famously in the Rick Stein series of Food Heroes. But by far the favourite enthusiast is James Martin, whose enthusiasm for garlic comes across loud and clear in his series ?Delicious? where he visited the farm.
Garlic requires a long rotation of more than six years to prevent the build up of diseases such as white rot, and nematode pests such as eelworm. The land is ploughed, cultivated and fertilised according to the needs of the crop and the chosen fields for the year.
Isle of Wight Garlic is planted from October to February and the first garlic shoots mark the rows from January onwards. Garlic requires a spell of cold weather, generally 1-2 weeks at 0-4C, to prepare itself physiologically for bulb formation later in the year.
