Ever touched a real live stingray? How about a sturgeon? At the Aquarium you can do both. Watch our rays glide through their warm water habitat, then gently rub your fingers down their backs to watch them swoosh away. The sturgeons are just as gentle, though their skin is a little bit rougher!. If you can, try to spot our elusive eelpout. He likes to hide in the corners.
Great Lakes Aquarium's Otter Cove, modeled after the Otter Cove found in Canada's Pukaskwa National Park is home to our two river otters, Anang and Zhoosh. During your visit, you may see these playful critters belly flopping off the rocks, swimming, eating an afternoon snack, somersaulting, or just resting. All of these behaviors, while fun, have been proven to be social sport, bonding family members and sharpening reflexes and hunting skills.
The Aquarium is host to our very own bald eagle, nicknamed Bogey. Bogey hails from Anchorage, Alaska where he was found having fallen out of his nest after trying to fly too soon in his life. He was saved and nurtured back to health, though injuries to his wing prevent him from being reintroduced to the wild. Bogey has been with us since 2001, and has now fully grown to an adult eagle. Come enjoy this majestic bird on the first floor of the Aquarium.
