Greenlaw Bed and Breakfast and Garden is a large two-storey historic home which has recently been redecorated. It overlooks the Kaipara River and farmland to the west, and to the north east the town of Helensville, located in Northland, New Zealand.
There's more than an acre of semi-formal and cottage Gardens, with a large rocky formation currently under development. Guests are Greenlaw Bed and Breakfast welcome to wander around our Gardens, some of which can be seen from the Guest Rooms. The Gardens are open to the public in Helensville, during the flowering season, October through to May.
With Helensville township just two minutes away, Greenlaw Bed and Breakfast and Garden is very handy to cafes, shops, bars, and the other attractions of this interesting and historic area.
Your hosts, Raywin and Wayne, are extensively travelled and really enjoy meeting new people and sharing their knowledge of the Helensville area, Northland and New Zealand in general.
Greenlaw features two double bedrooms, one with en suite. Each room has television and tea and coffee making facilities. A covered spa pool is available for use by guests.
A full cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs (poached or fried), tomato, mushrooms or omelette is available, along with cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, home-made marmalade and tea or coffee. Dinner can be provided if pre-arranged; your hosts are renowned for their good food!
Greenlaw caters for groups from 2-20 for lunch or dinner by arrangement. As well as tantalising your tastebuds, we also have on display and for sale artworks by local Argentinian artist Mrs Leda Daniel.
Planned in Garden rooms with winding paths and pergolas, this 0.4 hectare Garden is softened with self-seeding flower beds. A sunken Garden, edged with brick, featuring a sundial and planted with cream roses and lavender, lends a semi-formal air.
The Garden features some 150 old roses, including favourites such as 'Souvenir de Malmaison' and 'Albertine' which adorn the house verandah. Spring at Greenlaw is a time of cherry blossom, bulbs, magnolias and forget-me-nots. The perennials, roses and daisies take over in summer, then the silver birches and gleditsia feature in autumn along with tall blue salvias, roses and perennial lobelias.
Greenlaw is open October to May by arrangement. Luncheons and teas are available by arrangement, and the nursery has perennials for sale.
