Guesthouse Glerá 2, Akureyri offers affordable accommodation with made up beds or sleeping bag accommodation, depending on your requirements. Although we wouldn’t describe our Bed & breakfast as cheap we do strive to keep the prices as reasonable as possible.
The top floor of the house is a guesthouse, and all the bedrooms are there, apart from two that are on the ground floor, along with a bathroom with shower. On the top floor you will find a bathroom with a shower, a spacious living room and a kitchen.
There is a television in every room except the single rooms, and wireless Internet access available to all our guests.
Glera was a farm until 1980 when its owner, the late farmer Magnus Oddsson decided to do something new. He was over sixty years old at the time. He had the cowshed demolished and transformed the barn into a guesthouse. Beside the old barn he also rented out three caravans which he had placed on the lawn south of the house. He was a very thorough man, and used numerous new materials when transforming the barn, things that were uncommon at the time and therefore rather expensive. The roof never needs painting and all the windowsills are made of plastic and aluminium, needing no paint either. The man knew what he was doing. Then the years went by and Magnus health deteriorated, and when he couldn’t run the place himself he was forced to sell. That’s when the old farm was split into two halves; the old house became Glera 1 and the old barn – now being a guesthouse – became Glera 2.
When the present owners bought the house it wasn’t run as a guesthouse anymore, but that soon changed, and now the old barn is again used as Magnus had intended as Guesthouse Glerá 2.  They furnished a small apartment on the ground floor for their own use, in a space previously used as a garage to store the caravans.
