Welcome to Hapuku Lodge, Kaikoura, New Zealand. Hapuku Lodge was built to give guests a great night's sleep in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Located 12 kms north of the renowned, eco-marine town of Kaikoura, on New Zealand's South Island, the Lodge is surrounded by an expansive deer farm and 1000 tree olive grove. Hapuku Lodge is situated in one of the most spectacular settings in New Zealand, nestled between the Kaikoura Seaward Mountain Range and famed Mangamaunu Bay.
Designed by a family of architects and designers as a contemporary country Lodge, Hapuku Lodge offers six guest rooms, a stand alone spacious apartment, five luxury Tree Houses, a function venue, and a dedication to creating exciting food from local, seasonal ingredients.Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses positions guests to experience eco-marine tourism at its finest.
A family full of architects and builders, we designed Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses to be contemporary country accommodation. Not limiting our design efforts to the building, we also designed and handcrafted, with local wood working friends, the majority of the furniture throughout the Lodge. This includes the beds that some guests say, “are the most comfortable beds in the South Island.” In 2003 we started with six guest rooms in the main Lodge and the Olive House Apartment. In 2006 we added our five tree houses. We can now host up to 35 guests.
The kitchen at Hapuku Lodge focuses on preparing simple, fresh and flavorful food, sourced whenever possible from local purveyors and organic growers. With this philosophy in mind, our resident chefs, Rod Ramsay, Tara Watchel and Leesa Curnan create world class food. Included in the list of fresh offerings, diners may select Kaikoura’s namesake, Crayfish (New Zealand rock lobster), pulled directly from the resident saltwater tank.Dinner is 2 or 3 courses with multiple choices within each course. Wine and canapés are served before the meal. During the summer season, we offer dining in the Lodge’s restaurant room and garden. We encourage guests to dine communally. Private dining is also available.
