Incorporated November 10, 1954, the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society was founded to preserve, promote, educate, collect and make available information documenting the rich history of our town and its people. A membership organization, the Harmon Museum and Historical Society, Old Orchard Beach, Maine, welcomes anyone who shares an interest in Old Orchard's past, present, or future and a desire to ensure care of our Harmon Museum and its extensive archives.
None of the valuable work done by the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society at the Harmon Museum would be possible without support from members of our community. By becoming a Member, you can show your enthusiasm for history and offer valuable support to the work of the Society, including educational programs, archival research and artifact preservation.
As a member, you will receive invitations to all lectures and programs sponsored by the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society. In addition to invitations you will receive free research sessions in the archives and a subscription to our e-newsletter, keeping you up to date on the exciting activities of the Society.
The Historical Society works to educate the public about the significance of Old Orchard Beach's past and its relationship to our lives today. New members are always welcomed!
A long desired project is nearing completion - that of creating a permanent photographic record of the interior of our "home," the Harmon Museum. Volunteers Elizabeth Mazzurco, James Welsh and Priscilla Gallant have been working together to create a digital photographic record of the interior rooms and contents of the Museum. When the project is complete, the original digital files will be kept at the Museum with a second copy stored at Town Hall. Years from now, future generations will be able to step back in time and visit the Harmon Museum as it appeared in 2008. This photographic record will shine a bright light on our past.
