Head Beach Campground and Cottages is a family owned and operated vacation spot located right on the coast of Maine, at the tip of the Phippsburg peninsula in the United States.

Located about 1 hour from Portland and 20 minutes from Bath, activities and entertainment are nearby. Imagine strolling the beach on a moonlit night, listening to the waves crashing along the shore and retreating to your cabin's deck, staring at the reflection on the bay. Or venturing to the sand in the morning for some quiet reading or play time, and walking back to your cabin for lunch. Then, back to the beach again!

Head Beach Campground and Cottages in Phippsburg offers 50 seasonal sites almost evenly split between the open field and wooded area, each with water and electrical hook up, cable and phone access, and a central dumping station.

We offer 14 rustic but comfortable 1-2 bedroom Cottages. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and bath, automatic propane or electric heat, double beds, and a view of Casco Bay and the western horizon.

The property is 300+ acres in size and includes our private sandy beach ? Head Beach. Most of the property is still undeveloped and registered guests are invited to explore the trails and old tote roads. If you're quiet and attentive, you may spot feeding deer or be surprised by a flushing turkey. Even the occasional moose will wander through the area, staying just long enough for a quick picture.

For the fishermen, mackerel, blue fish, pollack, and stripers are caught and lied about almost daily from shore. Soft-shell clams are abundant and easily dug from the tidal flats near the Cottages, or you can wade out and pluck hen clams from the sand with your feet. From the beach looking out over Casco Bay lobster buoys dot the horizon, multicolored markers of a traditional way of life.

We rent 14 Cottages on a weekly basis - Saturday to Saturday, starting in June and running to September. Rustic in nature, all Cottages are fully equipped with cooking and eating utensils, apartment sized cook stove and refrigerator. Baths include full fixtures, with a standard upright shower stall.

Heat is provided with electric baseboard or automatic propane furnace. All beds are double in size. Pillows, bedspreads and blankets are provided, but you will need to bring your own towels and bed linens (fitted sheets and pillow slips).

Each cottage has a deck, small lawn, parking area, and its own unique view of Casco Bay. All guests have free access to our privately owned beach, which is within walking distance. We have one and two bedroom Cottages available, with reservations taken up to a year in advance.

Our campground features 50 large sites, with half surrounded by trees and half in the open space of a well maintained field, all are located within walking distance of the beach.

Each site has water and electrical hook up, with the option of private cable and phone installation, as well as weekly lawn care. There is a central dumping station with unlimited access for our guests. Showers and restrooms are free. Pets, with a limit of two dogs per site, are allowed provided they are well behaved and thoroughly cleaned up after.

Most sites can accommodate 42?+ trailers, with motor homes welcome as well. Our 1000sq? office is also used for pot luck suppers, friendly games, and other family oriented activities. Currently we are a seasonal campground, meaning a site is rented for the entire summer - Memorial Day Weekend to September 15th. Trailers are stored on site for free during the winter months.

The main activity will probably be hanging out in your camper or cabin, and spending time on our private, 300+ yard beach. But, some of the popular options include

* Hiking - Morse Mountain is a popular, small mountain hike less than 10 minutes away, rewarding you with breathtaking views of the coast at the top
* Fishing - we can arrange deep sea fishing, or many people try their luck shore casting - striper fishing is popular at Fort Popham
* Shopping - Hundreds of choices, including L.L.Bean in Freeport and the Maine Mall in South Portland - both less than an hour from the Campground, or visit Bath or Brunswick - both less than 30 minutes away with nice downtown shops and restaurants.
