The Historic Cornwall Jail in Cornwall, Ontario was built in 1833, and this unique building operated as a functioning Jail until 2002 when it became a popular tourist Attraction. To ensure visitors experience an authentic Jail visit, this tourist Attraction has maintained the original visitation areas, cell blocks, exercise yard and common areas as they were when inmates were incarcerated. Visitors to the Jail are permitted to set into a cell where, for a few moments, they can experience life behind bars. Fortunately for modern times, the 1800's judicial system has changed and sentences are less harsh.
