The cozy Restaurant â??Lefka Oriâ? was opened in 1969 by Andreas Fasoulakis and is still a family business, with Andreas as the chef and the three sons, Georgos, Manolis and Gannis, as waiters.
All of them speak English, Georges also speaks Italian and Manolis speaks German; they very much enjoy chatting with their guests after a meal. The taverna is popular both with tourists and locals for its traditional atmosphere and excellent food. It is situated right beside the small harbour where you can watch the fishing boats as you dine on the terrace.
Dishes on the menu are made from fresh local produce and include Sfakian specialties, locally caught fish, different kinds of local meat, and vegetarian dishes, accompanied by local open wines and other bottled Greek wines.
Andreasâ?? wife, Evangelia, also makes typical Sfakian pies, special pancakes with soft cheese topped with honey and pancakes filled with local wild spinach. Andreasâ?? moussaka is reputed to be the best in Crete!
Above and behind the taverna there are 10 good-sized rooms with very competitive prices, and one apartment. Most rooms have a balcony, many have a sea view and air - conditioned and all have private toilets and showers. The air-conditioned apartment is suitable for six persons and consists of two bedrooms, a large living, a bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen. The view over the sea and mountains from its two balconies is splendid. Andreasâ?? sons or his daughter Maria will be glad to show you the rooms and the apartment.
