Welcome to the House of 1833, Bed and Breakfast, Mystic, United States. Built in 1833 by local banker Elias Brown, this early 19th century Greek Revival Mansion and national landmark is a masterpiece of its period; located on three beautifully wooded and landscaped acres in the village of Old Mystic. The House of 1833, Bed and Breakfast architectural gem is but a short distance from Exit 90 (Mystic) off I-95. It was converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 1994 with five luxurious guest suites; so close to all the excitement and activities of Southeastern CT and yet a true retreat, where time seems suspended...
a place of timeless grace.
The House of 1833 features two formal parlors; the front parlor (pictured below) with a Belgian marble fireplace and a second parlor (pictured above) with black marble mantel detailing and a 19th century crystal chandelier. These spectacular rooms are furnished in the 'period' and are here for our guests to enjoy, as well as our signature chocolate chip cookies..."the stuff dreams are made of". Potted palms and ferns and the effusive and singular beauty of orchids from the owner's own private collection create an interior 'natural' landscape. With the robust color of fresh cut blooms, one discovers a beautiful rhythm with the mansion's woodwork and period moldings.
Our five guest rooms are 'suite' format with lovely sitting areas, working fireplaces, and monumental 19th century queen or king size beds; all with full bath. Some rooms include private proches or two person wirlpool/Jacuzzi hot tubs. As well as our Victorian Suite of three rooms and bath located within walking distance of downtown Mystic. A sense of romance prevails throughout these six distinctive suites.
