The Hunter House Restaurant and Inn in Tybee Island in Georgia have a history with the town. Back in the early 1900's people from Savannah would pack lunches and take the train to Tybee Island to enjoy a day at the beach in Georgia in the United States. At the south end of old rail road bed, which is now Butler avenue, stands Hunter House. Built in 1910 as a family beach house it was renovated in 1998 opened for business in May 1989 and is now one of the best restaurants and inns on the Georgia coast.
It's southern beach house charm begins to embrace you as you climb up the stairs to the second floor verandah, entering the dark wood paneled foyer is only the beginning of a special evening of Victorian ambiance and culinary delights at The Hunter House Restaurant and Inn in Tybee Island in Georgia.
There you are greeted by John Hunter and his friendly staff before being seated at a candle lit table in one of the three small dining rooms.
Hunter House chef and part owner Espy Geissler grew up locally and has an amazing talent for creating gourmet meals with southern flair.
Different specials are prepared each night featuring fresh seafood and excellent meats. The appetizers range from a rich seafood bisque to a bowl of Cuban black bean soup. While the meals of local black grouper, Atlantic salmon or yellow fin tuna are delicious, the "pot roast dinner" continues to be a favorite year after year.
The small, full bar, offers a varied selection of wines from different countries, which can be enjoyed with your meal or after dinner seating on the porch in a rocking chair.
The Inn has four rooms ranging from a large suite with a fire place to smaller one bedroom and bath. All within walking distance to several breakfast restaurants.
