Kalaw Place Guest House was established in late 1979 when a small weekend cottage was enlarged to accommodate the influx of tourists coming to Puerto Galera, Philippines. No formal architectural designs were laid out, and all existing rooms and houses were oriented based on the lay of the land , the sea, and the path of the sun.
The primary growth of hardwood trees, palms, bamboo, and mangrove have been complemented with landscaped walks and areas planted to ornamental flora. The inn started as a communal effort of refugees from the city offering rooms and vegetarian meals supplemented from its own organic garden. It has evolved into a family-run inn offering superior rooms and suites and fine dining to the visitors and guests of Puerto Galera.
Kalaw Place,is located on a hilltop overlooking the enclosed cove of Puerto Galera and offers the finest living and privacy while in Puerto Galera. Eight rooms and two cottages are spread out amidst three hectares of private landscaped ground in a tropical hardwood jungle. Each room is uniquely designed and furnished to suit each budget and taste. The Restaurant features home-cooked meals, while the bar/recreation area offers sunning, swimming, snorkeling, table tennis and billiard. Apartment suites with kitchenette are also available. Our central location provides access to all beaches and point of interest in Puerto Galera either by foot, banka (pump boat) or jeep. Our services include arranging tours to the different beaches and trails into the rain forest
Basics of Living in Paradise
Water and electricity are prime considerations to ensure a comfortable stay at the Kalaw Place. Water is piped from the mountains via gravity and an adequate supply is assured. There may be times when water pressure is low due to a full house or when necessary maintenance repairs are made to the water system. Water is also drinkable as it's source is running spring water from the mountains, so there is no need to bring your bottled mineral water to Puerto Galera.
Electricity is mainly provided by a cooperative in Calapan, Mindoro. The voltage tends to fluctuate depending on the peak hours of use. When this source of power is not available, there is a stand-by generator to provide electricity.
Management of Kalaw Place
The Kalaw Place Guest House is owned and managed by Kiddo and Rosmarie Kalaw. We make no pretensions to offer service and amenities like a five star hotel but we try to provide for the needs of each individual as a guest of a family-run resort in Puerto Galera.
