Lakeside Country Guest House is an elegant Edwardian property offering upmarket accommodation, location and cuisine. It is ideally situated on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake with superb views of the Skiddaw mountain range; yet just a five minute drive away are Keswick and Cockermouth Town - the birthplace of William Wordsworth.
The house has panelled Oak floors with 8 comfortably furnished bedrooms (7 en suite) offering colour TV, radio alarms, hair dryer, shoe cleaning and tea/coffee making facilities.
The comfortable lounge overlooks the lake; there you can relax, select a book from the library, play chess, watch TV or simply browse through the local information folder. In the evening the Lounge is the ideal place to meet fellow Guests. Ample Parking is available within the grounds.
We are situated within easy reach of Keswick (10 mins drive) and Cockermouth (5 mins drive). There are many restaurants and pubs offering food in the towns. Even closer are the villages of Braithwaite and Bassenthwaite and the hamlet of Embleton, all with establishments offering good food.
The Rosette Awarded Pheasant Inn is within walking distance. It has recently won the Best Inn Award in the Good Pub Guide and offers "fine dining" in the evening. Bassenthwaite Lake is opposite the house and is a private lake encouraging bird life, Otters and Red Squirrel. The Osprey nest close by and feed opposite the house between April and September.
Fishing is available on the river within walking distance. Permits available from local Inn. Boating days and sailing lessons can be arranged at Portinscale on your behalf. Beautiful walks in abundance to suit all levels.
Local Spa & Pamper Days - Take a little time out from sightseeing, fell walking and shopping to indulge yourselves. A newly refurbished luxury Spa with pool recently opened at the Armathwaite Hall Hotel is just 5 minutes drive from Lakeside. We are able to arrange pamper days there on your behalf. Holistic Therapist Dawn will visit you at Lakeside so that your tired aching feet can be soothed and massaged whilst you sit back and relax in the comfort of your room.
Cockermouth Golf Course - Situated above the small village of Embleton off the A66 a mile or so from Bassenthwaite Lake. An 18 hole, fellside course (Par 69) has unrivalled views of the surrounding Lakeland Fells and Solway Firth. Facilities include full bar and catering service and games room. Smart casual dress.

Keswick Launch - provides frequent trips around Derwentwater, in both directions.
Trotters World of Animals - Home to hundreds of animals. A great deal is under cover so rain need not spoil your visit.
Whinlatter Forest Park - England's only mountain forest with orienteering courses and many other attractions. It is also home to the Malcolm Wilson Rally annually.
Ravenglass Railway - From the Lake District Coast to the foot of England's highest mountains, small steam engines haul trains through two of Lakelands loveliest valleys.
