Our Famous Lone Star an a la carte restaurant in Dunedin, New Zealand, became our first franchised operation, opening at 417 Princes Street in 1993 on the heels of our Queenstown Café. It is owned and operated by Nick and Neisha Nilsen (bit of alliteration there), they hit the town armed with a wealth of experience gleaned from their time working in the original Lone Star, the mother-ship in Christchurch. They passionately run a warm, cosy Café which, like Dunedin, is humming.
Here in Dunedin, affectionately known as Scarfie City, Lone Star can seat up to 130 guests and we also have the Memphis Function Bar upstairs to host your next large party from 21st's, Anniversary celebrations and Social Club events.
And as in all our Lone Star restaurants throughout New Zealand, children are always welcome and have their very own menu. Come and see us soon, we'd love to have you.
Lone Star originated with 'out' with the pompous nouvelle cuisine that was all the go in the 80s and in with the concept that dining out should be fun and value for money. The original menu was a combination of comfort food, Kiwi classics and a few Lone Star originals. Some of these dishes from that first menu are still being served today and are as popular as ever. Dishes like the Lassoo of Hog, Dixie Chicken and the iconic Redneck Ribs prove that food fads come and go but good food never goes out of fashion.
