Low Bridge End Farm, a 50-acre farm is run along traditional and sympathetic lines preserving the outstanding natural beauty and quiet. It has never been intensively farmed, the hens run free, the ducks and geese swim in the beck and the four-legged beasts graze peacefully. (Even the deer!) Mechanical operations are kept to a minimum to preserve the flora, which grows as nature intended without nitrate fertilizer
Low Bridge End Farm is beautifully situated, tucked under a fell with a beck (crossed by our own bridge) in front of it. It has appeared as a typical Lakeland Farm in various books. Dippers, kingfishers and herons are among the many birds to be seen in the valley. We have established a lot of woodland, which forms part of the trail. Much of it is oak and beech as well as Christmas trees and beautiful larch.
Low Bridge End Farm is managed in an environmentally friendly way, reflecting the responsibilities and rewards of Stewardship. This benefits both wildlife and visitors. You can see this in action as you walk through Sosgill Wood. The trail begins immediately behind the farmhouse and climbs through the woods. There are two observation points facing north and south and an explanitary sheet shows the distant geology, geography and landscape history. The prize winning trail has seats for the quiet observation of our varied bird life. Alloq 45 minutes for the trail.
