In 1995, MacGregor Hay opened Mac's Seafood Market as a twenty-year-old college student with his fifteen-year-old brother Alex. Initially, the market only offered unprepared local seafood, and a few provisional items. Shortly thereafter, we began trying our hand at preparing food, and thus began slowly adding items to the menu. Soon enough, we were offering lobster dinners, grilled fish dinners, and sushi to be eaten at home or at the beach side tables outside the market, and Mac's Seafood began cooking more dinners than its make shift kitchen could handle.
In 1999 the newly formed Wellfleet Harbor Seafood Company, Inc. began to manage The Harbor Grill, the ice cream and fried-fish stand located in the same building. Since then, we have been renovating, and streamlining the two businesses into one, to accommodate the quickly growing customer base. The summer of 2002 saw the introduction of highly successful Catering Division, which has been instrumental in our abilities to promote our affinity for the finest foods and lifestyle to a broader audience.
In the Spring of 2004, our Tenth Anniversary, we opened our second retail location in Truro Center. This location also houses our wholesale division, which distributes local products throughout the Lower Cape and Boston.
On April 1st, 2005 we opened out third reatial location at the Wellfleet Marketplace (formerly Lema's Market) on Main Street Wellfleet. This location will be open year round and will complement the two other retail locations.
