Welcome to the world's northermost Brewery. Mack Brewery in Tromso was established in 1877 by Ludvig Mack, and is still a family-run business. Gift shop. Mack's Brewer was founded as a Brewery in
the autumn of 1877 by Ludwig Markus Mack, descendent of an old and highly esteemed family of craftsmen from Braunschweig in Germany. At the age of only 35, he established what was later to become the city of Tromso’s biggest industrial undertaking, and in 2002 the Brewery celebrated its 125th anniversary!
The Brewery’s product range has varied considerably over the years, and is constantly being extended and developed. Today, it produces as many as 16 different recipes/brands of beer, and 13 types of soft drinks and mineral water. Bayerol (dark lager), Bokøl (bock beer) and Vorterol (an unfermented drink of malt and hops), which represented the first modest beginnings, are still with us. The same is true of Mack Pilsner, which is today, as it always has been, the Brewery’s biggestselling single product. Today’s Bayerøl is still produced from the same recipe as when it was launched on the grand occasion of 17th May (Norway’s annual Constitution Day) in 1878. Ludwig Mack’s vision and desire to bring quality beer to the vast majority of people is still alive and flourishing. Mack’s particular focus is on product development and innovation, and the most recent contribution to these objectives has been the firm’s investment in a micro-Brewery. A great deal has changed since 1877, but the quality remains the same!
