Established in 1926 in the tropical seaside city of Mackay on Queensland's central coast, The Mackay Golf Club has been described as the Jewel of the North.

The Club has, in recent years, won several awards for the quality of the course and of the tournaments held, and in particular was voted No.1 Country Course in Queensland. The City of Mackay Open was voted the best country tournament (from the circuit of over 90 clubs) at the Queensland Golf Industry awards.
