WElcome to the MERI Center for Marine Studies, Blue Hill, Maine, United States. The MERI Center for Marine Studies was established in summer 2000 in the coastal village of Blue Hill on the mid-Maine coast. Overlooking Blue Hill harbor and the bay, the center serves as headquarters for MERI's Research and education operations in the Gulf of Maine and along the mid-Atlantic coast. Housing state-of-the-art marine Research laboratories, public lecture and conference spaces, a sea lending library and an ocean aquarium that replicates the Gulf of Maine ecosystem, the MERI Center is an important resource for the community and the region.
In the Center?s first floor Marine Gallery, MERI holds its monthly Ocean Environment Lecture Series, education programs for children and special events. The McCrum Sea Lending Library contains more than 1000 volumes of books, scientific journals, field guides and magazines, videos and archived Ocean Environment lectures making it an exciting place for adults and children to learn about the world?s oceans.
The Ocean Aquarium adjacent to the Marine Gallery, houses saltwater tanks and a touch tank for children. Here visitors can view species commonly found in the Gulf of Maine, including lobsters, winter flounders, sea anemones, mussels, crabs, sea stars, and a lumpfish named Norman, whose friendly nature has made him a popular attraction.
