Milford Haven Port Authority welcomes you to Wales, UK and to the Milford Haven Waterway. The Milford Haven Waterway is a unique deep water facility where industry co-exists with the tranquility of the UK's only coastal National Park. It is one of the world's great natural deep water harbours - twenty two miles of navigable water that has been a highway and trading centre since time began. The Celts shipped the bluestones that made Stonehenge, the Romans their gold while the Vikings named it ?meir fjordr' as a safe, sandy haven.
As a trust port - an independent, commercially run organisation, the Milford Haven Port Authority has a statutory responsibility to both Government and its stakeholders, and is required to reinvest all profits to the benefit of the latter.
The first of the two Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities on the Haven has now been commissioned. South Hook successfully received 'Tembek' - the first LNG Carrier to enter the Port, on Friday 20 March. It is expected that Dragon LNG will be commissioned later this year, meaning that a potential 30% of the UK's gas requirements will be processed through the Port.
Along the banks of the waterway - operated by Milford Haven Port Authority - some 25% of the UK's refined products are produced at the Chevron and Murco refineries and in the first few months of 2009 two new LNG terminals (South Hook and Dragon LNG) will become operational with the capacity to provide some 30% of the UK's gas. These facilities sit alongside the biggest petroleum tank farm in the UK - operated by Semlogistics.
Our aims are to protect the health and safety of employees, customers and the community by ensuring the safe operation of the Port and other Group activities, to support the community by promoting investments which generate economic activity, employment and recreation and to meet and demonstrate compliance with all our statutory responsibilities and the standards of openness and transparency in all our affairs as required of a Trust Port.
With 25% of the UK's petrol and diesel provisions already being handled on the Waterway, Milford Haven is soon to become the new energy capital of the UK.
